Genuine MAN fracture-split connecting rod for the D2842 LE443 and D2848 LE422. Where a rod has come out of an engine that suffered a bearing failure, look at the big-end bore before assuming the rod is reusable. A bearing that has run hot and seized transfers heat into the rod eye and can distort the bore out of round — a distortion that is invisible to the eye and measurable in hundredths, and one that will destroy a new set of shells by pinching them unevenly. Bore measurement with the cap torqued to specification is the check that settles it. Rods that fail it are scrap , short of repair candidates, since machining the bore would change the centre distance and with it the compression height.
