About this part
Genuine MAN crankshaft for the D2848, MAN's 90-degree V8. Before a replacement shaft goes in, the parts around it decide whether it survives: main and rod bearing shells renewed as a set, oil galleries proven clear, and the oil pump and cooler checked, since a crankshaft depends entirely on a continuous oil film between journal and shell and has no tolerance for interruption. Journals that are scored rather than cracked can be ground to a standard undersize and run with correspondingly oversized shells, which is the normal repair route and the reason exchange shafts exist for this engine. Fatigue cracking is the exception — it cannot be machined out, and a cracked crank is scrapped. A shaft of unknown history is worth crack-testing and measuring for roundness before it is fitted, never after.
