About this part
Genuine MAN crankshaft for the D2840, MAN's V10 — an unusual layout, and the reason this shaft is not interchangeable with the V8 or V12 units that share much of the same engine family. Cylinder count sets the firing interval, and the firing interval sets the pattern of torsional pulses the crankshaft has to absorb, so crank geometry and counterweighting are specific to the number of cylinders rather than to displacement alone. Ten cylinders also mean ten firing events per two revolutions arriving at uneven angles compared with a V8 or V12, and it is that irregularity the damper on the nose of the shaft exists to absorb. Check its condition whenever the crankshaft is disturbed: a damper whose element has hardened with age stops doing that job quietly, and the shaft takes the fatigue loading instead. Damage found at the journals is usually a symptom and not the original fault, so establish what happened to the oil supply before committing to a replacement shaft.
Supplied new, in the manufacturer’s packaging, with our warranty of up to 24 months.
