Genuine MAN crankshaft assembly for the D2840 V10, supplied with its race. The race is the hardened running surface the oil seal or bearing rides against, and it matters because it is the part that wears rather than the shaft itself — a scored race will chew through a new seal quickly and produce what looks like a leaking seal but is actually a worn surface. Supplied as an assembly, the shaft and race arrive matched, which removes the question of whether an existing race is fit to reuse — a question that otherwise gets answered optimistically on the bench and expensively a season later. Worth inspecting the old race under a fingernail rather than by eye: the groove a seal lip wears into it is often too shallow to see and deep enough to leak.
