Standard-size shells with a sputtered overlay for the D2842 LE443 and D2848 LE422. Vacuum deposition puts the running layer down differently from electroplating, and the result carries substantially more fatigue load before the overlay breaks up. MAN keeps sputtered and standard versions under separate numbers for the same engines precisely because they are two load ratings and one dimension — so the engine's build specification decides which belongs, and a shell that fits perfectly may still be the lower-rated part.
