Genuine MAN flywheel for the D2862 LE463 and LE422, the 24.24-litre V12. A flywheel carries rotational energy between firing strokes so the crankshaft turns smoothly instead of in pulses, and on a marine installation that smoothing does more than make the engine pleasant — it reduces the torsional excitation passed into the gearbox, the shaft and ultimately the propeller. That is why flywheel mass is specified for the engine and its application, and is not a free choice, and why substituting one from a different build is not a neutral change even where it physically bolts on. Match the part number; the mounting pattern proves nothing. Where a flywheel of unknown origin is already fitted, its number, not the engine's, is what tells you what the installation actually has.
