Genuine MAN flywheel for the D2840 LE301, the V10. Cylinder count and firing interval determine how uneven the torque delivered to the flywheel is, and a ten-cylinder V produces a less evenly spaced sequence of impulses than a V8 or V12 — which is part of why flywheel mass is matched to the engine rather than shared across a family. Combined with the torsional damper at the front of the crankshaft, the flywheel is one half of how the engine manages its own vibration. Where driveline vibration has appeared without an obvious cause, both components belong on the list rather than only the coupling and shaft. Where a boat has been repowered or re-propped, driveline vibration is more often a match problem than a component fault.
