Genuine MAN connecting rod for the D2862 LE463, LE422 and the D2868 LE433, covering the 24.24-litre V12 and the 90-degree V8. In a V engine each crankpin carries a pair of rods from opposing cylinders, so the big-end bearing on this rod shares its journal with another rod and carries firing load from two cylinders in alternation. That doubles the duty cycle at the journal compared with an in-line engine of similar capacity and is the reason rod-bearing condition on these engines rewards closer attention. When one rod bearing has failed, examine its partner on the same crankpin before assuming the problem was localised, since both have been running in the same oil film under the same conditions. Bearing shells on a shared crankpin are renewed together as a matter of course, whatever the condition of the second one appears to be.
