Where endfloat is found to be at or beyond the service limit, the thrust bearing is the component to change and the thrust face on the shaft is the thing to measure first. A worn face needs regrinding and a correspondingly stepped bearing; a sound face takes a standard one. Ordering before that measurement is how the wrong stage arrives.
