Genuine MAN cylinder head for the D2862 LE463, LE422 and D2868 LE433. Valve seats are the part of a head that determines whether it seals, and they wear in a way that is gradual and correctable up to a point: recutting restores the seat angle and contact band, but each cut sinks the valve slightly deeper into the head, and there is a limit beyond which valve geometry and clearance can no longer be maintained. That limit is why seat inserts exist and why a head that has been through several valve jobs may need them. Ask what has been done to a used head before rather than what condition it appears to be in. A head that has already had inserts fitted is not compromised, but it is at a different point in its life and worth knowing about.
