Genuine MAN starter relay for the D2842 LE443 and D2848 LE422, 208 grams. The relay lets a small switch at the helm control the large current the starter solenoid needs. It is a wear item in the literal sense — its contacts arc every time it operates — and a relay whose contacts have burnt produces a starter that works intermittently and then not at all. Relays are cheap enough to carry as spares, and the failure is one that happens away from any workshop.
