Genuine MAN starter rated 24 V at 7 kW in the two-pole insulated specification, for the D2862 LE463 and related engines. Two-pole insulation means the return path is carried by its own cable rather than through the engine block and hull, and on a vessel that is a protective measure rather than a construction preference: current returning through the structure of a boat sets up stray currents that accelerate galvanic corrosion of everything below the waterline. Where an installation is specified as fully insulated, substituting a single-pole starter reintroduces exactly the problem the specification exists to prevent. Confirm which arrangement the vessel uses before ordering. Getting this wrong is not a fitment error discovered at installation but a corrosion problem discovered over seasons, which is considerably worse.
