Control units are normally supplied requiring configuration to the engine and installation rather than ready to run, which is a point worth confirming with the supplier at the time of ordering rather than discovering at commissioning. Depending on the system, that configuration may involve loading the correct calibration for the engine's rating, transferring or entering engine-specific data, and clearing adaptation values inherited from the failed unit. None of that is difficult with the right diagnostic equipment and all of it is impossible without it. Establish who will do that work before the part arrives. An engine that will not be commissioned for weeks because nobody has the diagnostic equipment is a common and entirely avoidable situation.
