Genuine MAN central on-board computer for the D2862 LE463 and D2868 LE433. On installations with two engines, the on-board computer is generally the component that presents both to a single helm position, which makes it a single point of failure for information even though it is not one for propulsion. That distinction matters in a fault: losing the computer loses the instruments, not the engines, and a vessel in that condition is still navigable with care. Knowing that in advance is worth more than it sounds, because the instinct when a display goes blank at sea is to assume the worst about the machinery behind it. Knowing which instruments are fed through the computer, and which are independent of it, is worth establishing before a failure and not during one.
