Genuine MAN seal set for the heat exchanger on the D2868 LE433. On a plate heat exchanger the seals do two jobs at once — they keep raw water and coolant separated from each other, and they keep both inside the unit — which is why a seal failure here can appear either as an external leak or as coolant contamination with no visible leak at all. The second is the more serious and the harder to diagnose: raw water entering the closed circuit corrodes it from the inside. Renew the full set rather than individual seals when the stack is opened, since they have all aged identically. Seal sets are inexpensive relative to the labour of opening a stack, which makes keeping one aboard a reasonable precaution on a boat that operates away from support.
