Genuine MAN raw water pump for the D2866, D2876, D2840, D2842 and D2848. The weep hole in the underside of a pump of this type is a diagnostic feature rather than a defect. It sits between the water seal and the bearing, and its purpose is to let any water passing the seal escape to the outside instead of running into the bearing — so a pump that drips salt water from the weep hole is telling you the seal has started to fail, while the bearing is still intact. That is the moment to act. Ignored, the leak continues past a failing seal into the bearing, and what would have been a seal replacement becomes a bearing failure and often a scored shaft. Check the weep hole whenever the engine is looked over.
