The coating designation marks this as a distinct specification, not a finish detail — a coated bore surface changes how the cylinder wall behaves against the piston rings, and the pistons and rings specified for a coated bore are not necessarily those used with a conventional one. That makes it essential to establish which specification an engine has before ordering either the casting or the components that run in it.
