Genuine MAN injection pump for the D2840 LE builds, the V10. The pump is driven from the engine's timing gear train, which ties injection timing directly to the mechanical condition of that train — backlash accumulated through worn gears shifts when injection actually begins, regardless of how accurately the pump itself is calibrated. That is worth remembering when a pump has been overhauled and the engine still starts poorly or smokes. Measuring backlash in the drive is a cheap check that either explains the symptom or eliminates a possibility, and it is one of the few checks that can be done without specialist injection equipment. Backlash is also cumulative through the train, so the figure worth recording is the total rather than any single mesh.
