Genuine MAN injection pump for the D2842 LE builds. Fuel filtration is the single determinant of injection pump life, and on a marine installation it has to deal with a problem road vehicles largely avoid: water. Tanks breathe humid air, condensation forms on cool surfaces, and diesel supports microbial growth at the fuel-water interface — producing sludge that blocks filters and an acidic environment that attacks metal. The water separator is therefore not an optional refinement but the pump's primary protection, and draining it belongs on a routine schedule, well ahead of any symptom. Where a pump has failed prematurely, the tank and the separator explain it more often than the pump does. Draining a separator takes seconds and is the highest-value minute of maintenance available on a diesel installation.
