Genuine MAN injection pump for the D2842 LE builds. Where an engine is being laid up for an extended period, the injection pump is the component most affected by what the fuel does while standing. Fuel left in the pump can varnish and gum as its lighter fractions evaporate, leaving deposits on precisely the surfaces whose clearances matter, and water that settles out has months to act on them. Laying up with clean, treated fuel and a full tank — reducing the air space in which condensation forms — costs very little and protects the most expensive item in the fuel system. Boats that come out of a long lay-up with fuelling problems are usually describing this. Fuel treated for storage and a tank left full are the two measures that cost least and protect most over a winter.
