Fuel escaping from a high-pressure line at working pressure produces a spray fine enough to be almost invisible, and it carries enough energy to inject through skin. That is the reason searching for a leak by feel is dangerous, and the reason a suspected high-pressure leak is investigated with the engine stopped and a piece of cardboard held near the suspect joint.
