Genuine MAN injector for the D-Series marine diesels. The argument for replacing injectors as a complete set is a combustion argument, not a commercial one: cylinders fed by injectors with different spray quality produce different amounts of power, and an engine running unevenly loads its crankshaft and bearings unevenly too. One new injector among five tired ones widens that imbalance instead of closing it, because the difference between the best and worst cylinder widens. Where budget forces a partial replacement, the sensible unit is a bank on a V engine; taking one cylinder at a time achieves little. Bench-test the remaining injectors at the same time so the decision is made on measured opening pressure and spray pattern, not on which cylinder sounded wrong.
