Genuine MAN injector for the D-Series marine diesels. Diagnosing an injector by symptom is unreliable in a way worth knowing about, because the classic signs point at several components at once. A misfire on one cylinder can be an injector, but equally a valve, a compression problem or an injection line. Black smoke under load suggests over-fuelling or poor atomisation, but also a restricted air path or a leaking intercooler. White smoke on a cold start points at late or weak injection, but also at low compression. The reliable route is a cylinder-by-cylinder cut-out test to identify the contributing cylinder, followed by bench testing of the injector from it, rather than replacing parts in order of price. A remanufactured exchange version of this number is available.
