Genuine MAN nozzle holder combination for the D2840 LE301, MAN's V10. On a mechanical injection system the opening pressure — the fuel pressure at which the needle lifts and injection begins — is a set figure, and it drifts downward as the spring relaxes and the seat wears. A holder opening below specification injects earlier and at lower pressure than intended, which coarsens atomisation and retards the effective start of combustion without producing any single obvious symptom. This is measurable on a test bench and invisible on the engine, which is why mechanical injection equipment is checked on an interval, without waiting for a complaint. Ten cylinders make the case stronger: small differences between units accumulate into noticeable roughness. Have the whole set tested together so the figures can be compared against each other as well as against the specification.
