Genuine MAN drive gear for the oil pump on the D2840 LE301. Gear drives for oil pumps are deliberately robust because the consequence of failure is immediate, but they are not immune to the conditions around them: debris in the timing case, a worn mating gear, or misalignment from a previously disturbed assembly all shorten their lives. Where a drive gear has failed, the cause is worth establishing before the replacement goes in, since a second failure of the same component after a rebuild usually means the first cause was never found. Inspect the gears it meshes with and check the pump turns freely by hand before the cover goes back on. Turning the engine over by hand through two full revolutions before starting confirms nothing is binding.
