Genuine MAN oil pump for the D2862 LE463 and D2868 LE433. Where a pump is being replaced after a bearing failure, the question worth answering first is which of the two came first. A pump that wore out caused the bearing damage; a bearing that failed for another reason may have sent debris through the pump and damaged it in turn. The evidence is usually in the pump itself — scoring on the gear faces and body indicates debris passed through, while even wear without scoring indicates age. That distinction determines whether the rest of the engine needs investigating or whether the pump was simply at the end of its life. Photograph the gear faces before cleaning them, since the evidence disappears with the first wipe and the question often arises later.
