Genuine MAN oil cooler seal for the D2840 LE301, D2842 LE443 and D2848 LE422. This seal sits at the boundary between the oil and coolant circuits, which makes its failure mode more consequential than its size suggests: rather than leaking to the outside where it would be noticed, it allows one fluid into the other. Oil in the coolant reduces the coolant's heat transfer and attacks rubber elsewhere in the circuit; coolant in the oil destroys the oil's load-carrying capacity outright. Renew it whenever the cooler is disturbed, and never reuse one that has been compressed, whatever its apparent condition. Checking both the coolant and the oil at every service is the routine that catches this failure while it is still cheap.
