Genuine MAN oil pump for the D2848 LE422, the 90-degree V8. Everything a pump draws through is as important as the pump itself. The pickup sits in the sump behind a strainer, and that strainer is the component that quietly decides whether the pump is fed — partially blocked by sludge from extended drain intervals or by debris from an earlier failure, it starves the pump without producing any external sign until pressure falls under load. Where an engine has suffered a component failure that circulated debris, the pickup strainer is not optional cleaning: it is where the debris ends up. Drop the sump and clean it ; assumption is what catches people out the filter caught everything. On a V8 the sump has to be dropped to reach it, which is why this job is best combined with whatever else needs the engine opened.
