Genuine MAN oil pump shaft for the D2842 LE443. The shaft carries drive into the pump and supports the drive gear against the hydraulic load the pump generates, which means it sees torsional load and bending simultaneously. Wear appears where it turns in its bearing surfaces, and the consequence of clearance opening there is that the gear no longer runs true in the body — losing pressure through uneven tip clearance rather than through gear wear as such. Measure the shaft and its bearing surfaces during a rebuild rather than inspecting them, since the wear that matters is measured in hundredths and is not visible. A shaft that has been driven by a failing coupling should be checked for straightness too.
