Genuine MAN turbocharger for the left bank of the D2842 LE443, the 21.9-litre V12. Turbo lag on an engine of this displacement is less about the turbocharger than about what it has to spin up, and operators sometimes read normal V12 response as a failing unit. The useful distinction is between an engine that builds boost slowly but reaches full pressure and one that never reaches it: the first is characteristic, the second is a fault, and a boost gauge settles the question in a way that seat-of-the-pants judgement does not. Where full boost is reached but takes longer than it used to, look at the exhaust side for restriction and at the wastegate for a valve that is no longer closing fully, before concluding the rotating assembly is tired.
