Genuine MAN camshaft for the D2842 LE422, LE423, LE433, LE446 and LE453 builds. Where a camshaft has worn, the followers running on it have worn too, and fitting a new shaft against used followers is the most reliable way to destroy it quickly. Cam and follower bed in as a mating pair: the contact surfaces develop a matched wear pattern, and a used follower presents an already-dished face to a new lobe, concentrating load where the new profile is least able to carry it. Renew followers with the camshaft as a matter of course, and where the engine uses roller tappets, check the rollers turn freely and show no flat spots. The cost of the followers is small beside the labour of reaching the camshaft a second time.
