Genuine MAN camshaft for the D2862 LE463 and LE422, the 24.24-litre V12. A camshaft replacement is the natural moment to deal with the valve clearances properly, since the whole valvetrain is accessible and the new lobe profiles change nothing about the need for correct lash. Clearance that is too small can hold a valve fractionally open as components expand at working temperature, which burns the valve and its seat; too much is noisy and retards the effective valve timing. On this engine family clearance is set with shims selected from fine increments rather than adjusted by screw, so the job is a measure-and- select exercise rather than a turn-and-lock one, and having the shim range to hand before starting saves a second visit.
