Genuine MAN camshaft for the D2848 LE and LE406 builds. Camshaft journals do not run directly in the block on these engines: they turn in replaceable bushes, and those bushes are the sacrificial element in the arrangement — deliberately the softer material, so that they wear rather than the shaft or the casting. That has two consequences worth knowing when a camshaft is being replaced. The bushes have covered the same hours and are inexpensive beside the access needed to reach them, so they are renewed at the same time as a matter of routine. And because camshaft bearings are fed from the same oil gallery as everything else, worn bushes leak pressure that the rest of the engine then does without.
