Genuine MAN camshaft for the D2840 LE423, the V10. Cylinder count determines the firing order and with it the arrangement of lobes along the shaft, which is why a camshaft is specific to an engine layout in a way that is obvious once stated and easy to overlook when ordering from a list. A V10's lobes are spaced for ten firing events distributed unevenly around two revolutions, and no amount of physical similarity to a V8 or V12 shaft makes one substitutable for another. Work from the engine designation rather than from the family, and where the plate is unreadable, the block casting and injection pump identification are the practical fallback for establishing what is actually installed. A shaft that is close but not correct will usually fit and turn, which is exactly why this mistake survives until the engine runs badly.
