Genuine MAN radiator core for the D2842 LE443. A radiator core is vulnerable to two things that a tube-and-shell exchanger is not: physical damage to its fins, which are thin and easily flattened by contact or by pressure washing at close range, and internal corrosion where the coolant has been run below specification. Straightened fins never recover their original surface area, and a core that has corroded internally cannot be repaired reliably. Both point in the same direction — the maintenance that protects a radiator core is mostly about what goes into it and what is allowed to touch it, rather than about the core itself. Coolant tested and corrected on a schedule protects a radiator core more effectively than anything done to the core once it has deteriorated, and a refractometer check takes less time than topping up.
