Genuine MAN fracture-split connecting rod assembly for the D2866 E. Supplied as an assembly, which settles the question of weight matching. Connecting rods within an engine are matched by weight so that the reciprocating masses are balanced between cylinders, and mixing rods of different weight classes introduces a vibration the engine was never designed to carry. Where a single rod is replaced in an otherwise original set, the replacement's weight class needs to correspond — which is straightforward on a rod supplied complete and rather less so on one assembled from parts of mixed origin. Check the weight marking on the rod being replaced and confirm the new one matches before it goes in. Weight class is usually stamped or painted on the rod shank and is easy to miss under years of oil film.
