About this part
Genuine MAN crankshaft for the D2676, a 12.4-litre in-line six running a 126 mm bore against a 166 mm stroke and rated from 221 to 625 kW. That stroke is long relative to the bore, which gives the engine its low-speed pulling character and also means the rod journals sit further out from the shaft centreline — more leverage on every firing pulse, and a good reason to treat oil pressure and oil cleanliness on this engine as crankshaft maintenance rather than routine servicing. Journal damage from contaminated oil or a failed bearing is usually recoverable: the journal is ground to a defined undersize and run with correspondingly oversized shells. Fatigue cracking is not recoverable and condemns the shaft. Where the engine has been run with low oil pressure, inspect the rod journals specifically, as they load up before the mains do.
