Genuine MAN crankshaft for the D2848 LE422, a 90-degree V8 build. A crankshaft is one of the few parts where the failure that brings it out of the engine usually started somewhere else, so the useful question when ordering is what damaged the old one: oil contamination and loss of oil pressure account for most scored journals, by way of a bearing shell that wore through first. Where the journal is scored but structurally sound, grinding to a defined undersize and fitting matching oversize shells restores it, which is the reason worn shafts are routinely reclaimed rather than scrapped. Fatigue cracking is the exception and ends the shaft's service life outright. Renew the bearing shells as a set with the shaft and confirm the oil galleries are clear before the engine turns again.
