Genuine MAN crankshaft assembly for the D2840 V10, supplied with its counterweight. Counterweights balance the rotating and reciprocating masses the shaft is carrying, and on a ten-cylinder V they are what keeps the firing pulses from feeding straight into the engine mounts and the hull — which is why they are specific to the cylinder count and build rather than generic mass added to the web. Supplied as an assembly, the weight arrives matched to the shaft, so no separate balancing decision is needed at installation. In service the shaft follows the family: journals scored by contaminated oil or a failed bearing shell are reground to a standard undersize with correspondingly oversized shells, and a fatigue-cracked shaft is condemned without a repair route.
