About this part
Genuine MAN piston for the D2676, the 12.4-litre in-line six with a 126 mm bore and 166 mm stroke. On a long-stroke engine the piston travels further per revolution than a square-dimensioned one, which means higher mean piston speed at the same crankshaft rpm and correspondingly more work done by the skirt and rings over a given number of hours. That is not a weakness — it is what gives the engine its torque characteristic — but it does mean oil quality and change intervals matter proportionately more. Extended drain intervals show up as ring and bore wear on an engine of this geometry earlier than they would on a shorter-stroke design. On a workboat holding steady load for hours, that wear accumulates quietly rather than announcing itself, which is the argument for oil analysis on an interval.
