Genuine MAN cylinder head assembly for the D2840 LE301. Where one cylinder has been damaged on a multi-cylinder engine — by a dropped valve, a failed injector or hydraulic loading — the question is whether to replace one head or all of them. One is legitimate where the others are sound and of known history. Where the engine has high hours and all the heads are original, fitting one rebuilt head among nine worn ones creates a cylinder that seals better than its neighbours, which changes how load is distributed. Assess the others while access is available rather than deciding on the damaged one alone. A compression or leak-down test across all cylinders before dismantling gives that assessment cheaply and without opening anything.
