Genuine MAN cylinder head for the D2866 E. Retorquing after initial running is specified on many diesel head joints for a physical reason: the gasket relaxes slightly as it goes through its first heat cycles, and clamp load falls with it. Where MAN specifies a retorque, skipping it is not a shortcut but an omission that shows up later as a gasket that leaks without any obvious cause. Where the specification uses modern gasket technology and no retorque is called for, doing it anyway can be equally wrong. Follow the procedure for the engine rather than general practice inherited from other machinery. Where the engine's documentation is missing, a supplier familiar with these engines will know which procedure applies to the gasket being supplied.
