Genuine MAN drive bearing for the D2842 LE443. In a starter motor the drive bearing is the end housing at the pinion end: it carries the armature shaft, takes the reaction when the pinion engages the flywheel ring gear, and bolts the machine to the engine. At 1.8 kg and 245 mm long this is a structural casting. Wear here shows as a pinion that no longer meets the ring gear squarely, which chips teeth on both.
