Genuine MAN coolant pump for the D2866 E. This is the closed-circuit pump rather than the raw water pump — it circulates coolant through the block, the heads and the heat exchanger, while a separate pump draws seawater through the other side of that exchanger. Confusing the two is common and consequential, since they fail differently and are diagnosed differently. This pump is a centrifugal impeller on a shaft with its own seal and bearing, and its characteristic warning is a weep from the drain hole between seal and bearing, which indicates the seal has begun to pass coolant while the bearing is still sound. Checking the weep hole takes seconds during any routine inspection and is the difference between a planned repair and an unplanned one.
