Genuine MAN raw water pump for the D2866. Impeller life is shortened more by what the water carries than by hours run. Sand and silt in shallow or estuarine water abrade the vanes and the wear plate, weed and plastic debris jam between vane and cam, and a boat operating in clean deep water will see substantially longer impeller life than one working a river mouth or a drying berth. That is worth factoring into the service interval rather than applying a single figure: operators in dirty water sensibly halve it. The strainer is the first line of defence and is only effective if it is actually inspected. Fit a clear-topped strainer where the installation allows it, since a strainer that can be inspected at a glance actually gets inspected.
