About this part
Genuine MAN raw water pump for the D-Series marine diesels including the D2840, D2842 and D2848. The raw water pump is the component that separates a marine engine from a land one: it draws seawater or river water in through the seacock and pushes it through the heat exchanger, carrying away the heat the closed coolant circuit has collected. Pumps built for that duty are normally bronze-bodied, because the alternative in salt water is corrosion measured in seasons , not years. Inside, a flexible impeller does the pumping, and it is the consumable at the heart of the assembly. The whole arrangement depends on water arriving: a blocked strainer, a closed seacock or a collapsed intake hose leaves the pump running dry, and dry running destroys an impeller in well under a minute.
