Genuine MAN RME-resistant fuel pump for the D2840 LE301. RME is rapeseed methyl ester — biodiesel — and the designation matters because biodiesel attacks elastomers and certain metals that petroleum diesel leaves alone. Seals, diaphragms and coatings specified for mineral diesel can swell, harden or degrade in sustained contact with it, and the failures that follow appear as leaks or as pump failure with no obvious cause. Where a vessel runs biodiesel blends, whether by choice or because local supply is blended, RME-compatible components are a requirement and not an upgrade. Where it runs mineral diesel only, the standard part is entirely adequate. Where fuel supply is uncertain — as it often is when operating away from home waters — the RME-compatible part is the safer specification regardless.
