Genuine MAN injection pump for the D2866 E. The lift pump feeding this unit deserves checking whenever pump performance is in question, because low supply pressure produces symptoms that closely resemble a worn high-pressure pump — power falling away under sustained load, recovery at lower demand, hard starting after standing. A high-pressure pump cannot deliver more than it is supplied with, and a tired lift pump or a restricted supply line starves it. The check is a pressure reading at the inlet under load, and it takes minutes. Where supply pressure is correct and the symptoms persist, the case for bench testing the main pump becomes much stronger. Supply pressure is one of the few injection-system figures an owner can measure without specialist equipment, which makes it worth knowing.
