Genuine MAN injection pump drive gear for the D2866 LE401, the current number for the application. Fitting a drive gear correctly matters beyond the gear itself: it must run true on its shaft, since a gear fitted to a marked or fretted seat, or drawn on without the proper tooling, will run with a small eccentricity that loads teeth unevenly around every revolution. The resulting wear appears throughout the train , and not at the gear that caused it, which makes the fault hard to trace later. Inspect the shaft seat before fitting, use the correct installation tooling, and check the timing marks align before the cover goes back on. Checking marks before closing up costs a minute; discovering the error afterwards costs the whole access again, and on a V engine that access is most of the job.
