A shut-off valve stops the engine by cutting its fuel supply, and it is the one control on a diesel that has to work when everything else has failed — which is why its condition matters out of all proportion to its cost. The suffix MAN gives it in the description is an internal designation we have not been able to decode, and it is not reproduced here as a specification.
